All the images I’ve seen that Annie’s shot so far - Cinderella and Alice and the prince one - are absolutely exquisite. They are so beautiful and so kind of wonderfully emotional. So I was really thrilled to be asked to work with her and do this.”

Paris Hilton, Benji Madden Accused of Hit and Run Incident

A photographer has filed a hit and run report against Paris Hilton and Benji Madden for allegedly driving over his foot Thursday night.

A loud scream was heard as Madden slowly drove away from the premises of the Foxtail club in West Hollywood. Hilton was in the passenger seat.

"He's alright, he's a paparazzi," someone is heard saying on TMZ's video of the incident, which also shows the alleged victim's black and white checker Van's tennis shoe.

The photographer, Glen Gurniak, filed papers Friday with the L.A. Sheriff's Department, TMZ reports.

"There were too many people that side of the car so he swung the wheels in my direction on the other side of the car and got my foot trapped under the wheel," Gurniak told Splash News Online.

"I yelled at him: 'Dude, you've pinched my foot under the wheel, don't drive, don't drive,'" Gurniak said. "He turned and looked at me out of the window and then just drove. I fell to the floor as the car stopped and was just laying on the floor as everyone was screaming at him that he'd run me over."

"The incident is currently under investigation," Sheriff spokesman Steve Witmore told Usmagazine.com.

Hilton, 27, and Madden, 28, first made their relationship public on February 21, smooching at Hollywood hot spot Villa.

"I've never felt so happy and in love, [Benji] is such an amazing guy and life has never been better!" she wrote on her MySpace blog earlier this month.

Madden's twin brother, Joel, is dating Hilton's BFF Nicole Richie, who welcomed daughter Harlow in January.

Spencer Pratt: "100% Fact" Lauren Conrad Sex Tape Existed

Spencer Pratt has refueled the long-standing feud between him and Lauren Conrad.

On Tuesday's episode of The Tyra Banks Show, he says that he is "100%" sure there was a rumored sex tape starring Conrad.

"I know for 100% fact it did exist – 1000%!" he declares.

Banks asks if Pratt had actually seen it.

"I would never watch that!" Pratt says. "I would rather throw up... but I know for a fact, and I would take a lie detector test."

Heidi Montag — who appeared alongside Pratt on the show — also claims the tape was "not a rumor. From what I have heard from confirmed sources... her ex-boyfriend was going around trying to sell it."

Banks then asks Montag, if she hadn't seen the tape, how could she be so sure it existed.

"Well, I mean, I am not sure she has it anymore... but from what I've heard..."

Montag adds, "I am not really allowed to elaborate."

In April 2007, Conrad told Us, "There is no sex tape that exists."

Conrad and Montag's friendship fizzled after she accused her of spreading rumors about the raunchy tape.

Pal: Ashlee Simpson's Going to Have "Cute, Tiny Kids"

Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz may not be confirming a pregnancy just yet, but some of her pals can't quite contain their excitement.

Mariah Screws Up, Lights Up

Earlier this morning, Mariah Carey took over Times Square in NYC to perform live on Good Morning America and was met with technical difficulties. At the start of her performance of her hit single Touch My Body, the backing track was miscued and it started playing before she was ready ... and well ... it didn't look too good for our dear Mimi:

Click above to watch

The video must be watched in order to get the full, terribly embarrassing effect. The question becomes just how dead did the person who mispressed the button become? I wouldn't be surprised at all if Mimi ended up ripping the person's heart out with her bare hands. Touch my body, indeed.

At any rate, Mariah did look pretty damn good while she held herself together for her 3 GMA performances:

The news was much better for Mimi later on in the day ... at just after noon, Mariah was honored by a special lighting ceremony at the Empire State Building where the iconic structure was made to shine in lavender, pink and white (the color scheme of Mariah's new album) in honor of a "Great New Yorker" (according to the press release) and her #1 album E=MC2 ... and Extra TV was there to talk to Mimi at the event. Here are a few photos of Mimi at the ceremony:

Only "Extra's" AJ Calloway is with Mariah Carey on top of the Empire State Building as it shines pink and lavender lights in honor of the singing sensation. She admits, "I've been growing up in New York my whole life and I've never been up here ... It took this to get me here!" Carey tells Calloway that she truly appreciates New York City's landmark honor saying, "It's very overwhelming. It's really exciting. I feel very blessed. Very thankful to God for everything." Not only is Carey on top of the charts, but her amazingly fit body has been the talk of the town as well. Revealing her secret, she exclaims, "I've been dieting ... Patricia, my trainer, is very, very strong!" And as for her film, Tennessee, which is premiering at the Tribeca Film Festival, she says, "He [Aaron Woodley, director] wants people to see it and access it for themselves."

Despite the glitches earlier in the day, I think Mariah ended up having a pretty spectacular day ... which is apropos since she's been having a pretty spectacular week, month and year.

Amy Winehouse Released from Jail

Amy Winehouse was released from police custody in London Saturday morning, after being cautioned for "common assault," a police source confirmed to PEOPLE.

The soul diva, 24, spent the night in the city's Holborn police station after voluntarily arriving for questioning at around 5 p.m. Friday.

When she arrived, a police spokesman told PEOPLE, a doctor determined she was "in no fit state" to be interviewed, so she was kept in a cell overnight. Once a doctor gave the go-ahead, she was questioned Saturday morning about a street brawl in which she allegedly attacked a man in the early hours of Wednesday.

"A 24-year-old woman today received a caution for common assault and has been released from custody," a police spokesman said. As is the custom, British police do not name suspects unless they are charged.

It was an active 48 hours for Winehouse, who met with her lawyers Thursday evening to talk about the alleged assault. She then hit the Good Mixer pub and the Made in Brasil bar, where she was kicked out at about 12:30 a.m.

The singer did not attend husband Blake Fielder-Civil's court hearing Friday morning. (He faces charges of trying to fix a case in which he is accused of assaulting a bartender.)

Winehouse emerged from her residence in the afternoon and was mobbed by photographers – to whom she made no comment – as she picked up her goddaughter from school. The singer then dropped in on a tanning salon, and finally – about two hours late – the police station.

'Baby Mama' is in fertile territory

BONDING TIME: Kate (Tina Fey), left, and surrogate mother Angie (Amy Poehler) trash a former boyfriend’s car in the comedy “Baby Mama.”

The buddy film starring Tina Fey and Amy Poehler gets in some jabs but plays it mostly sweet.

Is Tina Fey, former head writer for "Saturday Night Live" and creator and star of one of the best shows on television, "30 Rock," going to get hit with a knee-jerk media backlash now? It could happen, given the blood-thirst that motivates so much cultural writing these days and, of course, her "convention-defying" success. I'm never quite sure that the conventions defied are real rather than media-made, but whether her new comedy "Baby Mama" blows up or is quickly ushered off the national stage like a grateful documentarian at the Academy Awards, it's a pretty safe bet that Fey's exotic status as a funny, smart woman over 35 will be cited.

"Baby Mama," which was written for Fey and her "Weekend Update" co-anchor Amy Poehler by "SNL" alumnus and "Austin Powers" screenwriter Michael McCullers, who also directs, is blithely unconcerned with gender-baiting. In fact, the movie hardly allows itself any sharp moments at all -- it's much too sweet-natured to be cruel, and much too cheerful to be angry. It probably could have pushed a few more buttons, but "Baby Mama" aims to please and succeeds.

Fey plays Kate Holbrook, a 37-year-old single businesswoman who is suddenly overcome with the desire to have a baby. She's not a basket case, she's just a fool in love with little, bald, fat incontinent creatures. She tries a sperm donor, but the insemination doesn't take. Kate has an unfortunate T-shaped uterus, and her dreams of motherhood are dashed. Enter Angie Ostrowiski (Poehler), an underachiever from South Philadelphia turned surrogate mother.

Considering the premise, "Baby Mama" might have gone the skewering route, taking on all that is over-the-top about technology-assisted, socially revolutionary baby-making and rearing. And it does get in some jabs. When it lets the mean zingers fly, it's mercilessly on-target. In one scene, Kate and Angie meet to work out some issues with Chaffee Bicknell (Sigourney Weaver), the formidable, clearly post-menopausal head of the surrogacy agency that has brought them together. When Chaffee smugly announces that she's expecting, Kate and Angie allow their shock to register. Then Angie mutters under her breath, "Expecting what? A Social Security check?"

There are other moments like that: Angie's IVF is played like a romantic scene, set to the song "Endless Love," as a fertility doctor (John Hodgman) preps the turkey-baster-sized syringe in the background; a mother in a playground tells her kids it's time for their play-date with Wingspan and Banjo; Kate's callous mom (whose liver spot medication may have caused her daughter's uterus problems) begs her not to adopt a black baby just because the celebrities are doing it.

But most of the time, "Baby Mama" stays away from satire and goes for smiles as often as it goes for laughs. "Baby Mama" is a love-fest, a good-natured buddy comedy whose humor comes from the odd-coupling of Angie and Kate, who wind up living together after Angie leaves her trashy common-law husband, Carl (Dax Shepard). Poehler and Fey play against stereotype with sweet, unexpected results.

Basically, Fey is Martin to Poehler's Lewis. When Angie first shows up in Kate's life, it's in a pigpen cloud of bad choices and chaos. But McCullers doesn't milk the white-trash bashing for long, and Angie mellows into a three-dimensional character in fairly short order. What she doesn't lose is that lunatic edge that makes her so funny. Next to Fey's even-tempered, good girl, Poehler is a loose cannon. As Kate complains to her sister Caroline, an under-used (where has she been?) Maura Tierney, after Angie first moves in, "It's like living with a child!" Pregnant and surrounded by out-of-control kids, Caroline reminds her that she soon will be living with an actual child, so she'd better get used to it.

If Angie is a nice respite from the usual blue-collar representations, Kate is an especially welcome antidote to the prevalent movie stereotype of the working woman who forgot to have a baby. Unlike, say, Helen Hunt's character in this week's other desperate non-housewife movie "Then She Found Me," Kate is a warm, calming, grounding presence. Her brand of desperation -- if you can even call it that -- is gooier, more distracted, more romantic than the hard-edged kind you usually get.

The men in Kate's life, aside from a hilariously cheesy, mustache-sporting ex played by Will Forte, are limited at first to co-workers, in particular her boss, Barry, a super-groovy health food chain owner played by Steve Martin. Martin and Weaver make up the smug boomer contingent of the movie, the we-can-have-it-all types who make life so hard for people like Kate. (Kate's boss rewards her for a job well done with "five minutes of uninterrupted eye contact.") As annoying as Barry is, Kate treats him with respect and affection.

In the process of looking for a site for a new store, Kate meets Rob (Greg Kinnear), a corporate lawyer turned proprietor of Super Fruity, a smoothie place under constant threat by Jamba Juice. Of course, Rob is as super fruity as Kate is a mean old career woman -- which is to say not at all.

"Baby Mama" adheres fairly closely to the conventions of the studio comedy, although it's never actually predictable, probably because the characters and subject matter are so novel. Relatively standard product as it is, it's also unexpectedly scrappy. When Kate learns of Rob's antipathy for Jamba Juice, she raises her voice in genuine surprise. "Jamba Juice is 'The Man?' " For a guy with a corner juice shop with an equivocal name and an unfortunately shaped logo (an apple and an orange flanking a banana), it is. It's all a matter of how you look at it.

Fey has spent several years proving that she's very good at what she does, and she may spend the next few years having to prove that she deserves any success that comes her way. But hey, this is America -- where the fact that a woman is running for president is still talked about with a kind of gee-whiz-look-how-far-we've-come disingenuousness, despite the many countries that have already seen one or more women presidents. If a Fey backlash happens, I hope Hillary buys her a drink.

Lindsay Lohan Lightens Up on the Drinks

Having touched down in Las Vegas Friday afternoon with BFF Samantha Ronson, Lindsay Lohan made a beeline to a corner booth at the Strip House restaurant – where she ordered a lobster, French fries and drinks.

Her libation? Shirley Temples.

The sweet concoction of lemon-lime soda, grenadine syrup and a maraschino cherry was a far cry from the Grey Goose vodka and Red Bull mixture she reportedly had consumed April 19 at Hawaiian Tropic Zone in New York at a party deejayed by Ronson.

After the early lobster dinner, it was off to Red Rock Resort, 17 miles west of the Strip, to take in Kanye West's Glow in The Dark tour.

Lohan, 21, then retreated to her and Ronson's two-bedroom suite at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino, while Ronson was deejaying the grand opening party of Torrid, the nightclub inside Planet Hollywood's Hawaiian Tropic Zone.

Cameron Diaz: Humor Eases the Sadness

As Cameron Diaz continues to observe the mourning period following the April 15 death of her father Emilio, Ashton Kutcher and others associated with her new movie, What Happens in Vegas, met with the press in Los Angeles on Saturday – and delivered a written message from Diaz herself.

In her own hand on her personalized stationery, Diaz wrote in copies that were provided to journalists: "First of all I want to thank all of you for your support over the years."

She also said, "I was really looking forward to thus weekend getting to talk to my friends about a film I am so proud of," but, citing "the loss of my Father, I have chosen to be with my family this weekend."

Praising the comedy (it opens May 9) in which she and Kutcher play combative newlyweds battling over a $3 million slot-machine payoff, Diaz said, "It was important to me to convey to all of you how much I love this film. We really did have the best time ... most fun and laughs making it."

Family Screening
On a private note, she wrote, "This weekend I am screening What Happens In Vegas for my family. It was a unanimous decision that we all needed to share a good laugh. After all that's why we make films like these. So people can leave behind their worries for a couple of hours. Have a good laugh."

In closing, she said, "I picture all of your smiles and it makes me happy. Thank you for your continued support. It is much appreciated." Under a hand-drawn heart, she signed off with, "Cameron."

Kutcher, who represented Diaz and the movie at last week's London premiere, told PEOPLE on Saturday that he has personally expressed his condolences. "Not to her family," he said, "but I've talked to Cameron."

Emilio Diaz, 58, succumbed to post-influenza MRSA pneumonia, an aggressive staph infection that can occur in all ages and in otherwise healthy people, his family said Wednesday in an exclusive statement to PEOPLE.

"His love for laughter was undeniable and he embraced life head-on in such a dynamic way that he was impossible to forget," they added.

If you're spending 18 hours a day at work, the last thing you want to do is go and have a drink with the people who you just-you just need to get away."

Gotta love the honesty!

In regards to the much talked about salary dispute she responds, "I never expected to be paid what Sarah (Sarah Jessica Parker) was being paid. But I felt that the offer was not worthy of what the three of us had contributed. And I spoke up about it. I feel like I stuck my neck out. I fought. I don't ever want to be on a set where I feel undervalued."

Feisty! Good for her for getting her fair share.

Can't they let him rest in peace????

According to a new report, the trustees of the late James Brown's estate are questioning the paternity of James Brown II, son of Brown's widow Tomi Rae.

So, a South Carolina judge has just ordered a paternity test for James the Second to bring closure to the issue.

The lawyer representing Tomi Rae said she's never objected to a paternity test. “She’s said that she was in favor and would do the test, provided that the other children also took the test. She didn’t feel like her son should be singled out.”

Looks like war between the spawn of the Godfather of Soul!

A motion to test Brown’s adult children was not heard in court Friday. An attorney for Brown’s adult children said he had no comment on the judge’s ruling.

A court-appointed lawyer repping James the Second said, "Clearly, James Brown has held up this child to be his son. We have writings that he has signed indicating that this is his son. He talks lovingly of his child. So all indications are this is the son of James Brown.” The lawyer also mentioned that the child has received Social Security and insurance benefits since the soul star's death.

The kid has a court-appointed lawyer???

Our taxpayer money is being wasted on this mess??????

Greediness is so unbecoming!

We look forward to seeing the paternity results!

The Shirt Hits The Fans

David Beckham inadvertently sparked a legal squabble ... between two kids ... after he graciously gave away his soccer jersey to the kids at the end of an LA Galaxy match in Honolulu, HI earlier this year. Becks took off the jersey and then handed it to a group of outstretched hands ... and that is where the legal dispute comes in. Here are a couple pics of Becks handing off the jersey and then the subsequent tussle between the feuding fans:

TWO DAVID BECKHAM fans aged nine and ten are suing each other -- over who owns a SHIRT the star tore off and handed to the crowd after an LA Galaxy game. The nine-year-old grabbed it first -- sparking a furious tussle with his best friend who insisted it was meant for him. The boys' angry PARENTS then got involved in the fight. Last night both families were poised to go to court -- after hiring lawyers following the match in Hawaii against the ... Bulls. The nine-year-old's dad Wilfred Ho insisted: "My son got it first from Mr Beckham, directly. Our main argument for the jersey is that my son got possession." But the older lad's mum Yoshika Kerr, who had made placards for the youngsters to wave during the game, insisted the ex-England captain, 32, TOLD her son he wanted him to have the shirt. She and husband Eric said the gift was because their lad held his sign up during the entire game — while his pal could not be bothered. The couple accused the Hos of reneging on a deal to let the boys each keep the shirt for a week at a time — by trying to fob them off with a replica bearing a forged signature. Eric, whose wife had made signs declaring "Go Beckham" and "Aloha Beckham", insisted: "Mr Beckham pointed out he wanted our son to have it and it's been really hard on him. He's such a big star and it's one heck of an experience for the boys. We just want the Hos to keep their end of the bargain." LA Galaxy president Alexi Lalas branded the row "ridiculous". He scoffed: "My suggestion is that the judge get a pair of scissors, cut the thing in half and give half to each."

Damn. This is truly sad. I'm quite appalled that the parents would let something like this go so far. Kids are kids ... they're gonna fight with one another over dumb shizz like this but for the parents to get involved and force a lawsuit is really ridiculous. I think David Beckham should make both families return the shirt to him and be done with it. That would be the best lesson for the kids to learn. People shouldn't be rewarded for acting like douce bags.

Britney's Comeback Checklist

While Amy Winehouse has been wreaking havoc on the poor and unsuspecting people of London, Britney Spears has been quietly taking care of her personal bizznazz here in SoCal without making much of a fuss and without causing any sort of ruckus at all. It's really amazing how much difference a few months makes. It wasn't that long ago that Britney was he one putting her life in peril on a nightly basis with her dangerous partying behavior and now she's in a position where she is working diligently on making a serious comeback. Here are a few photos from our dear Britney's quiet but positively progressive week:

Early this week, Britters spent some alone time with her sons Sean Preston and Jayden James along with her ever-watchful daddy Papa Jamie Spears at her Beverly Hills manse. The group spent some time playing in her backyard and then went en masse for a little walk together ... possibly the same kind of family walks that Brit Brit used to enjoy with her family when she was growing up in Kentwood, LA.

For over a week now, Britney has been religiously showing up at various Bally's Total Fitness gyms all around SoCal where she has been diligently engaging in a serious work-out regimen. Not only has Britney been working on her fitness but she is also reportedly in negotiations to become the new spokesperson for Bally's Total Fitness ... which is pretty unheard of, considering that just last year no major corporation would even dream of associating their brand with her likeness.

And just yesterday, Britney was spotted making her way out of a private session with her new vocal coach, proudly carrying a CD of her vocal lesson for all to see. I think the message is that Britney wants us all to know that she is very serious about getting her life back in order so that she can once again reach the heights of superstardom that she once enjoyed. I can see it now -- a new album and maybe a tour in the Fall with headlines around the world proclaiming that Britney Spears has pulled off the greatest comeback in music history. Monuments might be erected in her honor, sonnets may be penned to her glory ... pilgrims from all over the world will stream to Southern California in the hopes that they might be able to touch the hem of her garments so that they might too benefit from the miracle that has changed her life. Well ... maybe it wont' go that far but I can deffo foresee a chance for Britney Spears to stun the world with a massive turnaround. We're witnessing the seeds of her transformation right now ... and it's a really amazing sight to see.

Miley Cyrus: I'm Sorry for Photos

Miley Cyrus issued a statement exclusively to PEOPLE on Sunday, apologizing for a series of playfully provocative photos that circulated on the Internet last week, as well as those from a racy, as-yet unreleased Vanity Fair photo shoot in which she appears to be nude.

The singer, 15, tells PEOPLE: "My goal in my music and my acting is always to make people happy. For Vanity Fair, I was so honored and thrilled to work with Annie [Leibovitz]. I took part in a photo shoot that was supposed to be 'artistic' and now, seeing the photographs and reading the story, I feel so embarrassed."

A source close to the singer tells PEOPLE that Cyrus is clothed but shown by renowned photographer Annie Leibovitz in such a way that that the teen appears to be topless.

In the photos that circulated on the Internet, Cyrus, her midriff exposed, is shown draped over the lap of her then-boyfriend, her producer's son. In another image, a hint of a green bra is evident. (Those photos alone prompted criticism from conservative TV commentator Bill O'Reilly, as well as words of support from the Jonas Brothers and a fellow Disney star.)

Cyrus goes on to say: "The pictures of me on the Internet were silly, inappropriate shots. I appreciate all the support of my fans, and hope they understand that along the way I am going to make mistakes and I am not perfect. I never intended for any of this to happen and I am truly sorry if I have disappointed anyone.

"Most of all," she says, "I have let myself down. I will learn from my mistakes and trust my support team. My family and my faith will guide me through my life's journey."

Disney Channel Statement
In its own statement about the Vanity Fair story, the Disney Channel, which broadcasts Cyrus's series Hannah Montana, said: "Unfortunately, as the article suggests, a situation was created to deliberately manipulate a 15-year-old in order to sell magazines."

Describing the photo session to PEOPLE, a source close to Cyrus reiterated the teen's excitement at working with Leibovitz, and also said of the shoot: "Her parents were there all day. [Father] Billy Ray shot, too."

Though Cyrus's parents left before the final shot, with Miley supposed to be appearing topless, the source said: "Miley's grandmother and her teacher were there when she shot it. Annie convinced them it was going to be artistic. Her parents are mortified. They know this is a learning moment for Miley.

"The photo suggests that she is [naked], but she is not. She is covered by a sheet, and beneath the sheet she is clothed. Originally, she was in a flesh-colored tank top but was asked to remove it."

PEOPLE's requests to Vanity Fair for comment were not answered on Sunday. In a statement to The New York Times, Beth Kseniak, a spokeswoman for both Vanity Fair and Leibovitz, said: "Miley's parents and/or minders were on the set all day. Since the photo was taken digitally, they saw it on the shoot and everyone thought it was a beautiful and natural portrait of Miley."

Owen Wilson's Weekend with Richie Sambora and Vince Vaughn

As his Marley & Me costar Jennifer Aniston was seen enjoying mealtimes with John Mayer in Miami, Owen Wilson's weekend found him socializing with Richie Sambora as well as with his Wedding Crashers costar, Vince Vaughn.

Late Friday night at Nobu at the Shore Club – looking "a little disheveled and withdrawn from everyone," a source tells PEOPLE – Wilson dined with a group of buddies before making his way to the Florida Room at Delano, where he met up with an unlikely pal: Sambora.

"Owen and Richie were just chilling together, talking at a table," said an observer.

Meanwhile, Dylan McDermott was just one table away, and eventually joined the two others in their discussion. "They were just being guys, hanging out, friends talking," says the source.

By Saturday, Vaughn had flown into town and joined Wilson for a bit of fun on South Beach, a source tells PEOPLE,

"They hung out at Casa Tua until 5:30 a.m.," says the source. "The restaurant usually closes by 1 a.m., but they kept it open late for Owen and Vince."

As for what took place, "The guys hosted a private party inside and had a blast," the source added.

Joel Madden Surprises Nicole Richie with Getaway

Joel Madden whisked girlfriend Nicole Richie and their three-and-a-half-month-old daughter Harlow to the California desert this weekend for a surprise family vacation, the Good Charlotte singer tells PEOPLE.

The Richie-Madden clan headed to the Palm Springs area for the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival, a three-day event headlined by performers including Prince, Jack Johnson and Roger Waters.

"[Nicole] hasn't been able to do a whole lot over the year, so we're having a little family trip," Madden told PEOPLE at the BPM Hpnotiq Smurf House, where he DJ'd a festival pre-party Saturday afternoon.

"I [rented] a house and surprised Nicole with a weekend trip because she likes Coachella. She was like, 'I really want to go!' So I surprised her. We brought the baby."

And their activity? "Hanging by the pool."

While Madden, 29, spun music for party guests including Dave Annable and Taryn Manning, a smiling, relaxed Richie, 26, chatted with friends about her daughter, who was being looked after at their nearby rental home.

Benji and Paris, Too
Meanwhile, Joel's twin brother Benji Madden and his girlfriend Paris Hilton, who last week celebrated their relationship's two-month anniversary, were also in town for the music festival.

So which couple will make it to the altar first? "We're the family with the baby so I think probably us, but who knows," says Joel – who remained mum on his and Richie's wedding plans.

Jonas Bros. 'Didn't Expect' White House Dinner Reaction

It was tough to tell who needed more security at Saturday night's annual White House Correspondents' Association Dinner in Washington, D.C. – the President or the Jonas brothers.

"It's crazy," Nick Jonas said of the Beatles-like frenzy that erupted when the pop trio – also made up of Jonases Joe and Kevin – arrived. "We never expected this."

The evening's emcee, Late, Late Show star (and, as of January, a newly minted American citizen) Craig Ferguson, told PEOPLE he was "thrilled but shocked" to receive the invitation to host because he "assumed his first invitation as a citizen would be to Jury Duty."

At podium, Ferguson joked to President Bush: "Word has gotten out that this is a tough gig to host. So this is really just another case of immigrants taking jobs that Americans don't want."

For his part, the chief executive requested of the assembled dinner guests, "Please excuse me if I'm a little tired. The red phone rang at 3 a.m., but it turned out to be the damn wedding planner."

Playmate Politics
Two former Playmates, Jenny McCarthy and Pamela Anderson, came to the event armed with their own political agendas. Anderson attended with PETA VP Dan Matthews and combined the trip with a day of lobbying for animal rights on Capitol Hill.

McCarthy told PEOPLE before the dinner that lobbying President Bush to support her June 4 Green Vaccine March on Washington was No. 1 on her to-do list. But it was more likely that she would get to bend the ear of her tablemate, former Secretary of State Colin Powell. "By the end of the night, he'll probably be like, 'Shut up already lady,' " she foresaw.

Other celebrities in attendance included Rob Lowe, Lauren Conrad, Joel McHale, Marcia Cross, American Idol's Michael Johns, Colin Firth, Donatella Versace, Ed Westwick, Tim Daly, Rosario Dawson, Martha Stewart, Tracey Ullman and couples Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz, and Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner.

And who did the Jonas Brothers look forward to meeting? "We hear we're sitting with Martha Stewart," said Kevin. "That will be really cool. Hopefully by the end of the night, she'll say we have good table manners."

"We are still planning the wedding and haven't set a date yet. But it'll still be small and intimate," she said Saturday while attending the Evening of Hope benefiting the American Cancer Society.

In addition to the right temperature, the two are waiting for their schedules to "simmer down" a bit, too. Hewitt's Ghost Whisperer is currently in its third season.

Amy Winehouse Hits Rich List

Although she is fighting a possible arrest for an alleged headbutting, Amy Winehouse has one good bit of news – the respected Sunday Times Rich List has valued the "Rehab" singer as being worth $20 million.

The annual list, due to be published this Sunday, charts the changing fortunes of Britain's wealthiest people in the worlds of business and entertainment.

Although personal turmoil led to canceled tours for Winehouse this past year, album sales on the strength of her five Grammy wins have stayed strong for the 24-year-old.

Winehouse, the daughter of a taxi driver, is estimated to be the 10th richest young musician under 30 and is ahead of the other singers in the recent invasion of Brit Belles – Leona Lewis, Natasha Bedingfield and the recently widowed Corinne Bailey Rae – all of whom are valued at $12 million.

All are a long way from the top name on the list, Dhani Harrison, the 29-year-old son of late Beatle George Harrison, who has an estimated $320 million in his pocket.

When it comes to the all-age music list, Spice Girl svengali and American Idol creator Simon Fuller, who launched and stopped legal proceedings against pal Simon Cowell, hears ka-ching to the tune of $900 million.

That's just behind Sir Paul McCartney at $ 1 billion but trailing behind the $2.6 billion wealth of Clive Calder, the former record company boss of Britney Spears.

Miley Cyrus is not far behind Winehouse – she earned $17.5 million last year.

Alicia Keys Returns to Concert Stage

Having been waylaid by swollen vocal chords that forced the cancellation of some concert dates, Alicia Keys is back in form, ready to appear at St. Louis's Scottrade Center Sunday night.

Earlier this month, before her throat condition flared up, the singer, 27, spoke to PEOPLE while hot on the heels of having wrapped up the European leg of her "Lexus Presents the Alicia Keys As I Am" tour – which she called "one of the biggest tours that I have ever done, and to see the reaction from the people was great."

As for delivering the show stateside, she said: "I love the rhythm of it, but there will be slight changes to the stage and other things as I fine-tune it. But, overall, the tour is so tight. It's very interactive, and although many of the venues are huge, it's my intention to make everyone feel like we are in a little club or a theater."

In terms of performance style, she says, "I make people laugh; everyone sings along, we shout things out at the same time. It's adventure and very involved. It's something that people will want to come back to."

Beyond the tour, she's been at work on a documentary. "It's called Alicia in Africa, and it's a beautiful journey that I took with my organization Keep a Child Alive. It's been great to see the effects of the work we have been able to do and the people we have helped. Once you've seen it, then you can decide what you want to donate to the cause."

And, personally, there is her love life, about which she says only: "I am in a very stable relationship with myself – and growing by the second."

Kenny Chesney Injured During Concert

Kenny Chesney stuck to the old adage that the show must go on – despite a bone-crushing incident in front of the crowd during his sold-out performance Saturday night in Columbia, S.C.

As he was making his entrance before 44,424 members of the audience at Williams-Brice Stadium, the country star, 40, apparently got his right foot stuck in the lifting device of an elevator hoisting him into the middle of the arena, Country Music Television News reports.

As the closing act – following such other top names as LeAnn Rimes, Gary Allan, Luke Bryan and Brooks & Dunn – Chesney made his entrance as the band played "Live Those Songs."

But he was soon wincing in obvious pain, noted Columbia's The State newspaper, and he needed about 30 seconds to pry himself free.

The band kept playing until Chesney, his hand holding his knee, began his oepning number. He didn't mention the injury during his performance, though it was clear to those at the concert that he was limping and holding his knee during musical breaks in the show, says CMT.

The State observed that he hobbled through and grimaced during "No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems."

Doctor Dispatched
Immediately after the concert, a team physician from the University of South Carolina attended to Chesney, whose boot was cut off and his knee treated, to minimize damage. The full extent of his injury is not known.

In a statement issued after the show, which was part of his part of his "Poets and Pirates" tour, Chesney said, "I took one look at those fans, and there was no way I wasn't going on. Sometimes the energy and the adrenalin pull you through. They had come to rock, and there was no way I was sending them home with anything less than the best of what me and my guys came to do – put it all out there and give them back at least as good as they gave us."

Crediting the local fans for his strength, Chesney concluded with, "Honestly, through the pain, through all of it, Columbia, S.C., totally got me through."

Oprah Spills Secrets of Tom Cruise Interview

Oprah Winfrey went there with Tom Cruise.

I can exclusively report that Ms. Winfrey’s upcoming interview with Cruise includes questions about Scientology, his verbal smackdown with Matt Lauer on the Today show and, yes, the infamous couch jumping incident.

Winfrey actually revealed these details herself during this weekend's Las Vegas taping of her joint interview with Tina Turner and Cher.

And that isn't all Winfrey shared.

The first of the two-part Cruise one-on-one has already taken place at his estate in Telluride, Colorado, Winfrey said. “Oprah said Tom gave her a ride on a snowmobile,” one Vegas audience member told me. “She also said that Katie and Suri were there for the interview, too.”

Before the Cher and Turner taping at Caesars Palace, a member of Winfrey's entourage hit the stage to ask everyone not to repeat anything they were about to see or hear. “She had everyone repeat in unison, ‘What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas’ several times,” my source said.

Come on, O! Did you really think everyone in the audience of 4,000 or so was going to keep a lid on it?

The Telluride segment is set to air on Friday. Then on May 5, Cruise will return to Winfrey’s Chicago studio nearly three years after his couch jumping fiasco. So why so much Cruise? It’s the 25th anniversary of his breakout movie, Risky Business.

As for Turner and Cher, that segment airs May 8.

I've got even more scoop on Winfrey's trip to Vegas. Make sure to check my video blog tomorrow to hear what happened when Turner announced she was going on tour. Drama!

McDreamy Shockers: Donatella Dating, Prior Juggling

Patrick Dempsey's plus one is Donatella Versace? Get ouuuuut!

The Grey's Anatomy hunk tells us his arm candy for the forthcoming Italian premiere of his new flick Made of Honor is the pouting, dud-designing queen herself.

"She's wonderful, really quiet for the most part. And funny," the actor said today at a press conference held with Made costar Michelle Monaghan, "she's coming with me to the premiere in Rome."

It also doesn't hurt that he's the face for the House of Versace in an international print campaign.

While McDreamy multitasks on modeling and television and film acting, there's a different kind of juggling that grabs attention in the rom-com.

Dempsey plays a guy who's oblivious to his love for doe-eyed platonic BFF Monaghan until she bags a prize fiance, forcing Dempsey to stand behind her as Man of Honor (but subsequently attempting to destroy the nuptials from the inside). In a nifty bridal registry scene, Patrick deftly juggles three pricey plates.

"I was the second runner up in the World Juggling Championship in 1983," Dempsey confessed.

Oh, Baby! Tina Fey Smokes Harold and Kumar

If every person who watches little-watched 30 Rock bought a ticket to Baby Mama, the Tina Fey comedy would have, well, made a lot more money.

But in the weekend before the arrival of Iron Man, $18.3 million was enough to capture the top spot, per estimates compiled Sunday by Exhibitor Relations.

John Cho's and Kal Penn's latest adventure in the munchies, Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay, opened in second. With a $14.6 million take, the sequel made almost as much in three days as 2004's Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle did during its entire run in theaters.

Baby Mama, meanwhile, marks the first time a comedy with a female lead has opened No. 1 since Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey's Fool's Gold in February.

A comedy with two female leads—Baby Mama costars Fey's former Saturday Night Live tag-team partner Amy Poehler—hasn't opened No. 1 since, well…

Casual Sex? didn't open No. 1, did it? (Um, no.)

The First Wives Club did, all the way back in 1996, but that starred three women (Diane Keaton, Bette Midler and Goldie Hawn), not two.

History-making or no, Baby Mama arguably makes Fey a bigger movie star than TV star. While her 30 Rock struggles to reach people other than critics and Emmy voters, her film career now boasts two No. 1 movies. (Mean Girls, from 2004, is the other.)

Then again, maybe 30 Rock's ratings aren't as small as they seem. If Fey's 30 Rock devotees (the show is averaging 6.5 million viewers) had each been a Baby Mama admission (at the 2008 average price of $7.14, per Lee's Movie Info), the comedy would have opened with an extremely fertile $46 million or so.

Guess we can't all be Iron Man.

Elsewhere:

* Last weekend's champ, The Forbidden Kingdom (third place, $11.2 million; $38.3 million overall) held up okay. Last weekend's also-ran, Forgetting Sarah Marshall (fourth place, $11 million; $35.1 million overall), held up even better.
* If only Al Pacino's 88 Minutes (eighth place, $3.6 million; $12.6 million overall) could generate as much heat as a Los Angeles Times column about Pacino's and Robert De Niro's squandered careers, at least one of those fellows' careers wouldn't be so squandered.
* Hugh Jackman plus Ewan McGregor plus a 2,001-theater launch added up to…next to nothing for Deception (10th place, $2.2 million).
* Expelled from the Top 10 were: Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed ($1.4 million; $5.3 million overall); Street Kings ($2.1 million; $23.7 million overall); and, Leatherheads ($1.8 million; $29.3 million overall), which, disappointment or no, is actually the biggest grossing movie of George Clooney's not exactly mainstream directing career.
* What in the world happened to Where in the World Is Osama Bin Laden ($58,945; $263,327 overall)?
* The French mystery-thriller Roman de Gare was the weekend's biggest little movie, debuting with $25,545 at two theaters.

Here's a recap of the top-grossing weekend films based on Friday-Sunday estimates compiled by Exhibitor Relations:

1. Baby Mama, $18.3 million
2. Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay, $14.8 million
3. The Forbidden Kingdom, $11.2 million
4. Forgetting Sarah Marshall, $11 million
5. Nim's Island, $4.5 million
6. Prom Night, $4.4 million
7. 21, $4 million
8. 88 Minutes, $3.6 million
9. Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears a Who!, $2.4 million
10. Deception, $2.2 million

GLAAD Tidings in Hollywood

Kathy Griffin sure knows how to yuck it up with her gays.

The redheaded funny lady picked up the Outstanding Reality Program award for her My Life on the D-List last night during the GLAAD Media Awards at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood.

“I got the Michael Kors dress, the H. Stern jewelry and [stylist] Robert Verdi put me together,” she said. “I didn’t let a straight person near me tonight.”

While there were plenty of yuks throughout the evening, there were just as many serious notes.

T.R. Knight spoke of the recent murders of teens Lawrence King and Simmie Williams Jr, who were killed earlier this year allegedly because they were gay. The openly gay Grey’s Anatomy star also blasted republican Oklahoma state representative Sally Kern, who has come under fire after it was revealed that in a recent speech she compared gays to terrorists and said she believed that the “homosexual agenda is destroying this nation.”

“I am realizing more and more how privileged I am to be able to use my voice to support an organization like GLAAD,” Knight said. “I will continue to do so until the Sally Kerns are taught the real teachings of Jesus Christ.”

Cindy Crawford accepted the Pioneer Award on behalf of the late photographer Herb Ritts. Crawford recalled being shot for Ritts for a 1993 Vanity Fair cover in which she appeared in a bathing suit and high heels and pretending to shave out lesbian singer k.d. lang.

“I remember k.d. blushing as I climbed on top of her,” Crawford said. (A rare print of one of the shots from that now legendary shoot went for $22,000 at the live auction following the awards.)

Janet Jackson, who was presented the Vanguard Award by Ellen DeGeneres, kept her comments short and sweet. “ I would like to say to everyone in this room that I hope I could always walk worthy of this award,” she said.

DeGeneres joked, “Two people who have won [the Vanguard Award] before were Liza Minnelli and Elizabeth Taylor. Both have had their picture taken with Michael Jackson. A coincidence? I don’t know.”

In bizarre moment of the night, Ugly Betty’s Michael Urie tried to get a hunky crew member of the ABC hit to show off his buff bod. After executive producer Silvio Horta gave a heartfelt acceptance speech when Betty picked up Outstanding Comedy Series, Urie pulled on-set dresser Giovanni Aurilia to the front of the stage. “He’s really strong,” Urie cooed. “Open your jacket. Pick up Becki [Newton]—so strong!”

Other bold-faced names at the 19th annual fete included Sally Field, Sarah Silverman, Jimmy Kimmel, Sharon Stone, Billy Baldwin, Candis Cayne, Zoe Saldana, Portia DeRossi Sofia Vergara, Jennifer Beals and Wilson Cruz.

The night also featured performances by singers Joss Stone and Guy B.

The complete list of winners:

* Vanguard Award: Janet Jackson
* Stephen F. Kolzak Award: Rufus Wainwright
* Pioneer Award: Herb Ritts
* Outstanding Drama Series: Brothers & Sisters (ABC)
* Outstanding Comedy Series: Ugly Betty (ABC)
* Outstanding Reality Program: Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List (Bravo)

Mariah Carey & Nick Cannon Stir Engagement Rumors

Wearing a humongous, gleaming ring on her left hand, Mariah Carey stayed close to Nick Cannon at the afterparty for her new film, Tennessee, on Saturday night.

The pair held hands at the bash at Cadillac Lounge at Tenjune, which followed the movie's premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival. The two also looked cozy in Vegas on April 14. When asked about a possible engagement, Cannon's rep had no comment; Carey's was unable to be reached for comment.

Asked what he loved about Carey, Cannon, 27, told PEOPLE: "Everything." He was at her side from 8 p.m. to about 10:45 p.m. in Tenjune's VIP room, where they were joined by her BFF, Da Brat. Zoe Kravitz and Ben Kingsley also stopped by.

Meanwhile, before the premiere, Carey played it coy, saying she only has eyes for one male: Jack, her Jack Russell terrier.

"I'm in love with my dog," said the singer, 39. "He is my special someone. I love spending time with him."

Even when love hurts her adoration stays strong: Carey wore a pink Hello Kitty band-aid on her hand at the premiere, explaining that Jack "accidentally bit me."

In her new film, she plays Krystal, a troubled diner waitress and aspiring singer who tackles personal demons on a road trip to Tennessee.

Annie Leibovitz Sorry Miley Portrait Was 'Misinterpreted'

Photographer Annie Leibovitz is weighing in on her controversial Vanity Fair photograph of Miley Cyrus, in which the teenager appears to be topless, saying she finds the image "simple" and "beautiful."

"I'm sorry that my portrait of Miley has been misinterpreted," says Leibovitz in a statement issued Monday. "Miley and I looked at fashion photographs together and we discussed the picture in that context before we shot it. The photograph is a simple, classic portrait, shot with very little makeup, and I think it is very beautiful."

After the image was leaked on the Internet over the weekend, Cyrus issued an exclusive statement to PEOPLE saying, "My goal in my music and my acting is always to make people happy. For Vanity Fair, I was so honored and thrilled to work with Annie. I took part in a photo shoot that was supposed to be 'artistic' and now, seeing the photographs and reading the story, I feel so embarrassed."

Cyrus's parents were at the shoot, including her dad Billy Ray who also posed for photographs with his 15-year-old daughter. Although Cyrus’s parents left before the controversial photograph – in which the singer is actually clothed but appears to be nude – was taken, her grandmother and her teacher were present.

Vanity Fair's spokeswoman, Beth Kseniak, said of the photo: "Miley's parents and/or minders were on the set all day. Since the photo was taken digitally, they saw it on the shoot and everyone thought it was a beautiful and natural portrait of Miley."

Scott Weiland Sentenced to Eight Days in Jail

Former Velvet Revolver singer Scott Weiland was sentenced Monday to eight days in jail for a second DUI conviction following a Nov. 11 arrest.

Weiland, who was not present at the Van Nuys, Calif. court, was represented by an attorney who entered a no contest plea on the singer's behalf. He was also ordered to complete an 18-month alcohol education class and pay nearly $2,000 in fines.

Weiland, 40, has run afoul of the law numerous times over the years: He was convicted of DUI after a 2003 arrest in Hollywood, arrested on domestic-violence charges in 2001, and jailed for drug offenses in the 1990s.

Earlier this month, Velvet Revolver band members announced they were splitting with Weiland, citing his "increasingly erratic" behavior.

Meanwhile, Weiland has reunited with his previous band, the Stone Temple Pilots.

The singer has until May 28 to serve his jail term.

SNL Star Cheri Oteri's Dad Murdered

The father of former SNL cast member Cheri Oteri was stabbed to death on Saturday in Nashville, Tenn.

Authorities have arrested and charged country songwriter Richard Fagan, 61, with criminal homicide in the death of Gaetano Thomas Oteri, 69, the Associated Press reports.

Oteri, known as "Tom," was Fagan's roommate as well as his longtime music associate and publisher. According to the local NewsChannel 5, the incident took place at Fagan's home in South Nashville on Saturday night.

The Tennessean newspaper reports that Fagan was arrested Saturday night for a DUI. The songwriter told police that a fight had occurred around 9 p.m. between the two men, and that Fagan used a Colt pocket knife to cut Oteri across his body before leaving the scene, according to affidavits. Oteri's body was discovered by a friend on Sunday afternoon.

Fagan wrote the No. 1 songs "Be My Baby Tonight" and "Sold (The Grundy County Auction Incident)" for John Michael Montgomery.

Authorities have said that said Cheri Oteri, who most recently filmed a role in the Jessica Simpson movie Major Movie Star, is aware of her father's death. A rep for Oteri had no comment.

Ashley Dupré Sues Joe Francis

Ashley Alexandra Dupré, the New Jersey woman at the center of the New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer call-girl scandal, filed suit Monday against Girls Gone Wild founder Joe Francis and his film company – claiming he exploited her name and image for profit.

The lawsuit seeks more than $10 million in damages. In legal documents, Dupré alleges that Girls Gone Wild representatives approached her while she was vacationing in Florida in 2003, offered her alcohol and cajoled her into exposing her breasts for their cameras when she was just 17 (and not of proper legal age to sign a release form allowing her to be filmed).

Since then, the suit claims, Girls Gone Wild has illegally exploited Dupré's name, picture, voice and likeness in a number of deceptive ad campaigns and on Web sites.

Francis said he was "surprised and in fact amazed" by the lawsuit, noting he has not released new video of Dupré "due to corporate policy of not using footage of individuals younger than 18" and asserting she gave her consent on video, providing identification.

"She's seeking $10 million for topless photos taken in front of a room full of people, including two newspapers and multiple crews we had in the room," adds Francis. "These images were taken in public places and contain no sexual contact. We expect to triumph in this matter."

Last month, Francis was released from a jail in Nevada, where he continues to face federal tax evasion charges. He is currently fighting separate charges in Florida for allegedly filming underage girls in Panama City. Francis claims that the girls in question lied about their age.

Dupré, who turns 23 this week, has not appeared publicly since the Gov. Spitzer scandal broke.
